My battery died again and I'm starting to wonder if the standard ones just can't cope with the UAE summer. A mate keeps telling me gel batteries are the answer because they handle heat and deep discharge better, but they cost noticeably more and I'm not sure the benefit is real for a normal car. I read a Helpful Varta gel battery guide for UAE drivers while trying to work it out, and it did explain the differences in how gel and AGM handle cycling, which was more useful than the shop's vague reassurances. Has anyone here actually run a gel battery through a few summers and found it lasted longer than the AGM or standard one they had before? Or is the extra cost only worth it if you're doing something unusual like winching or running accessories with the engine off?
