There's a whine coming from the back of my JK that's been getting slowly louder over the past couple of months, and it's got to the point where I can hear it clearly at around 80 km/h even with the radio on. Took it to a general garage near my place and the guy had a quick listen, shrugged, and said it's probably the diff but he doesn't do gear work, which was at least honest I suppose. I've been told the longer you leave a whining differential the more expensive it gets, and that rebuilding later usually means replacing gears rather than just bearings and seals. My cousin works in Mussafah and swears there's a proper specialist setup around there, so I'm trying to find a Top Jeep differential workshop in ICAD rather than letting someone learn on my gearbox. Has anyone had a rear diff rebuilt on a JK and roughly what did it cost you? Also curious whether the noise went away completely afterwards or if these things always keep a little bit of whine in them. I don't mind paying for proper work but I do want to understand what I'm paying for before I hand it over.
