the ubiquitous vines growing on the street walls of nearly every understreet. These vines serve to condition the gas mixture and humidity in the air, to provide homes for various insects, insectoids, and small reptilian and mammalian creatures, and to offer flowering and textural ornamentation for the City street walls.

Water Nest
a trysting place for lovers in Poly Town in the City. Water Nest is a maze of corridors and bedcells behind a grotto formed by a natural watercourse called the Falling Wall. The grotto is paved and finished as a dance floor, where partners perform the great love-dances of Tarnus, the most notable of these dances being the sandrukha.
watergem: watergem, watergems
a synthetic jewel with a refractive index that changes with great sensitivity depending on the energy patterns penetrating the jewel’s interior. The effects of this feature are a shimmering, wavy series of distortions and coruscations in many colors.

a skinsuit so thin that it looks like little more than a veil of tinted water.

a person, most often a woman, reputed by many coll members to have special healing or anti-healing powers.
weirlock: weirlock, weirlocks
a shaman-mage, of particular importance among the Fandarinn. A student of neurotransmitter and neurovirus technology who uses cognitive skills to implant ideas and nerve changes, the weirlock is much feared and respected even among the colls with advanced technological sophistication.

n. brand name for a depressant beverage often used by andros, whose central nervous systems overload easily in many different ways.

one of the many languages used among the vanished humans of the pre-Colonist era.

Ben Wenrock, prison warden at starship assembly site at Oberon.
werecyclase
a mood-altering drug that produces a Jekyll-and-Hyde character transformation on a repeated basis. The swings of personality resemble those of bipolar disorder, except that acute paranoia and aggressiveness substitute for elation, and pervasive euphoria and sexual arousal replace depression. Illegal.

wolfbreed
gene-enhanced cross between the largest dogs and wild wolves. Any one of these animals understands up to fifty spoken commands, and can carry out a long conditional program of actions. They can rip the belly from any human or andro in a single slashing bite.

one of the imprisoned people bound in the stone walls of the City, like Unagrist or Jono.

an andro name for a color in the five-octave andro color spectrum. wurchai is in the near ultraviolet range (187-375 nm), and its name refers to a multiple of the human color red-orange. In relation to neighboring colors in a musical scale with red at A, this would be A sharp or B flat. From tabular data: wurchai is the name of a color in the spectrum visible to andros. wurchai is in the Near Ultraviolet (187-375 nm). In the five ‘octaves’ of the andro color spectrum, wurchai equates to a musical A#, and is in the same place in the octave as Red-Orange.
