- a term Turiosten used in describing Onnhasshakh‘s schism with the other aliens. ("…who broke the clasped sheaves and vanished in spires of stabbing gammalight"). Refers to cross-dimensional perceptual effects of gamma radiation.
- Ganash
- a Novander Wye Coll governing institution comprising twenty-five appointed elders of the coll. During the Second Dynasty, the oppressive rule of the Argazindari forced many other coll institutions underground in self-protection, and the Ganash were among these. Long periods of isolation and exile led to the development of the initial rules of the game of MuTou, then called ManZiTou-Ama. The name of the game’s inventor or inventors was lost in the burning of many coll records during an Argaz ‘investigation’ of coll activities.

- Gene Law
- one of the major bodies of guidance and control of the use of genetic knowledge, established at the start of the Fourth Dynasty. It sets out absolute prohibitions on the tampering or modification of the human genome for any reason, even prohibiting prolonging life by eliminating genes that produce weak or destructive effects in the person possessing them. Gene Law also tries to restrict all crossover links between humans and andros, prohibiting the addition of andro genes to human genome, and limiting severely the splicing of human genes into andro genome. Acceptable andro genes are clearly set out in the law, as are any procedures for adapting discovered or mutated sequences from and into living creatures. Death is the penalty for nearly all violations of Gene Law.
- genebuilder: genebuilder, genebuilders
- a biological tool for constructing gene insertions for different classes of tissue in different body locations. The genebuilder is based on a virus, and carries antibodies tuned to a set of cell-chemistry conditions. When all antibodies trigger, in a variety of ‘AND’ gate, the genetic content of the builder is freed to elaborate its sequences, which in turn generate identifiers and splicers allowing modification of the host genome. The neural-tissue genebuilders allow ‘rewiring’ of andro brain areas; andros call these ‘headsmiths' due to the pain they generate in the course of their transformations.

- one of the worst upheavals in Second Dynastic history, reducing human population by five-sixths. So called due to the way in which the gene weapons created latent effects that rode and spread undetected in human genes for one or more generations before activating and killing the hosts in a variety of seemingly-unrelated ways.

- n., a street in the City where many andros spend time in the skerrishees, socializing and recovering from work.

- an intersection in Sobi Zone, where Stang Street begins.

- the largest water area on the planet, equivalent in scope to the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean combined.
- Great South Fall: Great South Fall, South Fall
- a three-thousand-meter-high scarp, also called Sang Kail in Sinantro, that marks the southern edge of the Upper Continent where it drops to meet the Lower. The Great South Fall runs for three thousand kilometers between the Little Ocean on the west and the Great Eastern Sea on the east. Seventeen crevasses split the Fall, running rivertwisted northward to the point where they are only depressions in the high basin of the central plain.

- a tall andro, damaged in the vat and barely saved from recycling by his size and strength. Killed a human man and became a fugitive shortly after starting his allotted mine work. Ezzar‘s partner and lover. In his beginning, Grendel was to have been a perfect male servant to a rich woman. His name was originally Tyll.

- a term for those who work extended periods without rest, over and over.
- grind stone: grind stone, grinding stone, grinds stone, ground stone
- to work at any of the stoneshaping jobs (e.g., tunnelman, stonehoser) common in the City. These jobs are dangerous and poorly-paid, but they are vital to the City‘s operation, so many people take them.

- an interviewer working as a cleaner for Kaliagni.

- the drummer in Thringe‘s band.

- a leader of between three and six insurrection fighters. Ellichik is an example.
- Grize Walk
- an understreet deep in Poly Town, used mostly for intimate encounters or solitary pleasures.

- street-child word for ‘huge’, as in ‘gro onnashak’.
- groining
- the curved joining-line of City ceiling-vaults.
- groundhog: groundhog, groundhogs
- a robotic/organic weapon, expensive but highly effective. Usually about the length and thickness of a forearm, it assumes protective color, clings to a floor or wall, and moves very quickly to any target its combat brain can identify, where it detonates a high-explosive charge.

- a flowering plant used for decoration; its roots are sweet-smelling. If treated with ammonia, rinsed, and cooked properly with certain yellow fungi, these roots are delicious.
