THE LAST ONE 1558 4D He was late. Hiding above the road in a shadowed crevice of mountain rock, Ezzar let out her breath and studied her forearm where her Arcus Coll inscription lay, a braid of long threaded moonlit scars that said “Ezzar Astina Turianoch Teron Arcus Harridium born and bears and dies in her family always.” Astina Turianoch Teron was her mother’s name and descent, Harridium their maternal clan in the Arcus Coll. The scar trailed off into a microscopic signature just above her wrist, the meticulous knifescript of her maternal grandmother Estrian. Ezzar‘s mother had always told her how much she was like Estrian. But Ezzar‘s grandmother had never killed for vengeance. |
