Something odd happened on my way back from work on Tuesday and I have not stopped thinking about it. I was coming down the ramp near MBZ City, pressed the brake like normal, and the whole car pulled to the left, almost like someone grabbed the steering wheel for a second. I held it straight and nothing bad happened, but my heart was beating fast for a while after. It is a 2017 Range Rover Sport and I have owned it for about two years. Before this, I noticed a faint burning smell after a long drive, but I thought maybe it was the road or another car ahead of me. Now I am not so sure. My brother in law says it is probably a stuck caliper, and he told me a story about his old pickup doing the same thing. My colleague says it could just be uneven tyre pressure and I am worrying too much. I checked the tyres myself with a cheap gauge from the glovebox and they looked fine, though I honestly do not know if that gauge is even correct. When I read about it online I saw a page about Range Rover brake and gearbox repair in MBZ City, but it mixed so many topics together that I still could not tell what my problem really is. So I am asking here instead. How can a normal person tell the difference between a stuck caliper and a simple tyre issue? Does the wheel get hot if the caliper is stuck, and is it safe to touch it after a drive? Is it dangerous to keep driving for a few days until I find time for the garage? Also, the gearbox felt a little slow when I shifted into drive this morning, maybe half a second longer than usual. Could the two things be connected, or am I just imagining it because I am nervous now? Another worry is the bill. If it is only a caliper, I guess it is not too bad, but if the discs and pads also need changing, I imagine it grows quickly. Do garages usually let you see the old parts after the work? I would like to understand what was done instead of just paying and leaving. If this happened to you, what was the cause and how long did the repair take? Thanks for reading, I would really like to hear real stories.
