I have a 2016 Nissan Altima with about 148,000 kilometers, and last Monday the gearbox started slipping on the highway. The engine went loud, but the car did not speed up, and then it jumped into gear with a hard bump. I took it to a garage near my house, and after a short check the man gave me a number that made my stomach drop. He said the gearbox needs to be opened and some parts changed, but he did not write anything down. My cousin told me not to say yes to anything yet and to look for an affordable gearbox repair cost in Sharjah, because he said prices can be very different from one place to another. I read a page about gearbox repair costs online that evening, just to understand the basics, and it explained how the price changes with the problem, the parts and the labour in easy words. It helped, but I still have questions for people who have paid for this. How much does a small repair like fluid, a sensor or a valve part usually cost compared to a full rebuild? Is it normal for a garage to quote a price before they open the gearbox, or should I only trust a price after a proper scan and check? Should I ask for the parts and labour written separately? Another thing is the parts. Is there a big difference between new, rebuilt and used parts, and does the warranty change? How long should a warranty be on a gearbox repair, and does it cover labour too? I also wonder about getting a second opinion. Does it cost money, and is it worth the time if I can only leave the car for a short time? Is it okay to pay in two parts, or do most places want all the money first? The car is my daily drive for work, so I cannot leave it for many days. How long does a typical repair take? If you paid for a gearbox repair recently, please tell me what the problem was, what you paid, and if you felt the price was fair. Even a small tip will help me a lot. Thanks for reading, and sorry for the long message.
