WAKEUP CALL

0 NC, Day 1, Hour 23

“Wake up! Answer me!” A blazing lamp stabbed light in Miriam‘s eyes.

“Turn a off, a hurt,” Miriam pronounced the sounds carefully with stiff lips. Her limbs wouldn’t move.

“We’ve got to get you out of here,” a man’s voice said. He commed, “Help needed in the coffin bay. Right now. There’s a live body here that needs warming up.”

His hands released the webbing, gripped Miriam, and rolled her gently free. Little by little, her coverall wrapped her once again, bridging vast numbnesses in stretches of her body.

“Who are you?”

“I’m Doug MacNee. Let’s get you out of here. Can you open your eyes?”

Allan. We were together. We’re together again.”

“Yes, I know. That’s it, now the other hand. Great.” As he guided her tenderly up from Allan‘s body, her arms came around his neck. His heat seared her.

“I’m cold.”

“You’re going to be fine.”
